What to expect during the treatment?
Initial consultation is usually around 1 to 1.5 hours. In Chinese medicine we focus on holistic care (treating the body as a whole), so as well as understanding your medical condition, our practitioners will also ask questions around your general health, diet and lifestyle. We may also take pulses from your wrist or check your tongue. These are all valuable information to help us diagnose and establish the appropriate treatment(s) for you.
Follow-up treatments are usually around 45min to an hour depending on your condition and how your body responds. Please note the frequency and number of treatments required is also dependent on your condition.

How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine healing therapy with thousands of years of history. It is a mild and safe approach to trigger the body’s own natural healing ability. Acupuncture is based on the principle of revitalising the flow of “qi” (energy) to our body. Our qi circulates along energy channels in our body. When the flow of energy is blocked, we feel ill, imbalance or pain. By inserting fine needles on specific areas of the body known as acupoints, acupuncture can open up these blocked channels, restore energy flow and promote self-healing.
What can be treated by acupuncture?
Acupuncture treats a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. Some of the common conditions we treat are stress, insomnia, acute & chronic pain, sports injury, headaches and reproductive health issues such as PMS, menopause and low testosterone. See a list of common conditions we can help with. Generally, acupuncture is suitable for anyone from newborn to elderly. If you are not sure if acupuncture is suitable for you, talk to one of our practitioners.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is a very safe and mild treatment. We only use pre-sterilized, single-use needles that are disposed after each treatment. The needles itself are not much thicker than a human hair and are used for acupuncture purposes only, it does not draw blood like needles used for injection.
Will acupuncture hurt?
Most people barely feel anything when the needles are inserted. Some people may feel a tingling, dull sensation or heaviness in the treated area. Overall the treatment is very relaxing for patients (some people even fall asleep during the session). However, if you are not entirely comfortable with needles, our practitioners can also use needleless electric acupuncture pads for treatments.
Do I need to prepare myself for acupuncture?
For our practitioners to provide you with optimal care during the treatment, we recommend avoid drinking coffee, alcohol or eating a large meal immediately before acupuncture.
What should I avoid right after acupuncture?
To maximise the effect of your treatment, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise or drinking alcohol or caffeinated beverages immediately after treatment.
